IJP Announcement: Changes in Journal Considering MCI Notification on Research

Jun 10, 2020Journal

Dear Friends,
You must be knowing that as per MCI Notification dated 12.2.2020 No. MCl-12(2)/2019-Med.Misc./189334, the new criteria for promotion of medical teachers states, “only original papers, meta-analysis, systematic reviews, and case series that are published in journals included in Medline, Pubmed Central Citation index, Sciences Citation index, Expanded Embase, Scopus, Directory of Open access journals (DoAJ) will be considered”.

In the Indian Journal of Psychiatry, we publish original research papers under two headings: Original Article and Brief Research Communication. We are going to put up a clarification which will be displayed in the journal website clearly stating: Articles published under “Original Articles” and “Brief Research Communication” both constitute “Original Papers”. This was necessary as many of our teachers may face problems during promotional interviews and evaluations. We have discussed the matter with Prof. BN Gangadhar, Director, NIMHANS, Bangaluru, and he has provided his guidance for this crucial step.

So all Brief Research Communications published in the journal will be considered as original research for MCI purpose. Another important decision has been to include a new section of “Case Series” from the forthcoming issue. This is also being done keeping the requirement of medical teachers in mind. Consequently, we are going to do away with the sections on “Case Reports” and “Psychiatry Grand Rounds”. All individual case reports will be considered as “Letters to the Editor”. The Indian Journal of Psychiatry remains committed to the professional upliftment of its members!
