IPS: Fellowship Award for the 119th Annual Meeting of the JSPN

The Indian Psychiatric Society application for the 2023 “Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology Fellowship Award” are now open to all members of IPS. Two IPS members will be nominated for this award from IPS by the Executive Council . The nominations will be forwarded to the JSPN and final approval will be provided by the JSPN. The last date for submission for the award to IPS is 23rd September 2022. Applications submitted after this date will not be considered. The last date for application to JSPN is September 25th, 2022 (Japan time).

The Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology (JSPN) is now accepting applications for the JSPN Fellowship Award, which is presented to early-career psychiatrists from Asia and around the world. The purpose of this award is to recognize early-career, outstanding psychiatrists and to encourage academic discussion and personal friendships with early-career Japanese psychiatrists at the 119th annual meeting of the JSPN from June 22nd to 24th, 2023, in Yokohama, Japan.
The awardees and Japanese psychiatrists have collaborated to produce academic publications. Their achievements can be found here.

 

Eligibility

Applicants must:

1. Younger than 40 years of age or with 10 years or less experience in psychiatry
2. Not be previous recipients of the JSPN Fellowship Award
3. Belong to a World Psychiatric Association member society
(To ensure broad participation from around the world, the JSPN accepts nominations from each society up to a maximum of two applicants.)

 

Note: Award recipients will receive a waiver of meeting registration fees, accommodation, and a prize (JPY 70,000 for recipients from World Bank A and B category countries, and JPY 140,000 for those from C and D category countries). Prize money will be given in cash at the venue. If the annual meeting is held online, we will send the money to your bank account, but please note that in some countries, we may not be able to send money due to regulations.

 

Award recipients will be expected to:

  • stay at a designated accommodation site
  • participate in the meeting for the three-day period
  • give a presentation at one of the Award symposia (on the topic for which the recipient applied)
  • attend other programs for JSPN Fellowship Award recipients

Award recipients will also be expected to participate in future JSPN Fellowship Award Alumni programs. They can carry out research about each theme in psychiatry with Japanese young psychiatrists and past Fellowship Awardees.

Applicants must choose one of the following two topics and submit an abstract of 200 – 250 words in length.

 

1.   Roles of psychiatrists in emergency medical services

Regarding the attached file ([ 1 ] Roles of psychiatrists in emergency medical services), applicants are required to submit an abstract responding to the following questions.

In your country/region,
Q1. Describe what kind of psychiatry-related issues exist in emergency medical services.

Q2. Describe the role that psychiatrists play and are also expected to play in resolving the issues presented for Q1.

Q3. Describe the barriers in promoting the role of psychiatrists in emergency medical services and the initiatives and policies that may be effective in promoting the role of psychiatrists.

2. Case Vignette

Regarding the attached file ([ 2 ] Case Vignette), applicants are required to submit an abstract responding to the following questions.

Q1. What is the diagnosis of this case? Describe the examination, comorbidities, and differential diagnosis in your answer.

Q2. What type of treatment or intervention would you provide? Describe the use of medication, psychotherapy, social resources, etc.

Q3. Describe the typical pathways for patients with severe pain to seek medical care and the departments they visit in your country. Also, describe the situation in your country with regard to commonly used drugs, interventions, and problems.

Q4. What is your approach to patients who repeatedly transferred from one doctor to another? Describe the responses in your country, including hospital linkages, referral systems, and coordination of social resources.

We will start to accept an application from the beginning of August in 2022. Applicants must submit through On-Line Registration System below for the 119th annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology.

    (The designated Excel form  must be used.   Example )
  2. “Nomination form” with signature of the president of the society as nominator
    (“Nomination form” could be of any format.   Example )
  3. Abstract of 200-250 words in length about topic 1 “Roles of psychiatrists in emergency medical services” or 2 “Case Vignette”
