Summary: The relationship between cardiovascular diseases and psychiatric illness in complex, with higher rates of mental illness in patients with cardiovascular disease, and 1.5 - 2 times the rate of CVS disorders in patients with severe mental disorders. This guideline provides recommended treatment options for depression, anxiety, bipolar disorders, schizophrenia and substance use disorders. Treatments associated with particular side effects such as QTc prolongation on ECG, guidelines for the use of electroconvulsive therapy, and treatment in children and older adults, are alco presented.
