IPS President’s Message

Dr. T.S.Sathyanarayana Rao
President, Indian Psychiatric Society,
2026 – 2027

Greetings & Regards

Back home from the wonderful Conference at New Delhi. I am writing this to acknowledge my sincere thanks to each one of you who were at ANCIPS 2026 @ Yashobhoomi, Dwarka, New Delhi Physically and all those who could not make it.

I have decided to write to all of you once a month at least keeping you abreast of work done and what is planned, I am confident this process is something new and novel and you will appreciate the same.

The conference organizing committee did a wonderful job. The Venue, the ambience and the hospitality was excellent. The total attendance above 5000 is great and worth remembering how things went on so smoothly. The scale, the grace, the depth of Academics & warmth of the Conference was something special. The whole team worked day & night that made everyone enjoy the conference to the best extent possible. Personally and on behalf of the Indian Psychiatric Society, I place on record our sincere gratefulness to Dr. Nimesh Desai, the Organizing Chair, Dr. Deepak Raheja, Organizing Secretary, Dr. Rajesh Rastogi, Dr. Neena Bohra, Dr. J M Wadhawan, Dr. Ashwini Kumar, Dr. Rajesh Goyal, Dr. Vishal Chabbra, Dr. Pankaj Kumar, Dr. Shiva Prasad & all the members of DPS and North Zone & each and every one associated directly and indirectly at the conference. Congratulations to you all.

The Post AGB Meeting was held at 9 AM at the Media room at the Venue & majority of the members of the EC attended. We had discussion about the following things to work on seriously on a daily basis:

To prepare the logistics of implementation of Unified Membership of Indian Psychiatric Society. As already discussed and approved in the AGB we need to start the membership drive within this month.

To start IPS Presidential weekly Podcasts on Every Tuesdays between 8:00 to 9:30pm. The contents to cover topics for the Psychiatrists and so also the public. To be anchored preferably by the young brigade.

To roll out our IPS Foundation Day Theme Programmes once a month all through the year. The theme chosen is "Intimacy, Relationship & Mental Health Matters". Let us coordinate either physical or online programmes along with the World Mental Health Day theme "It is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace". We can involve South Asian Society for Sexual Medicine and WPA Psychiatry & Human Sexuality Section in particular and other organizations willing to participate.

To Strengthen the Social Media Committee to update our website so also to reach the public in a big way.

To formulate the committees by the middle of February. We have requested all the elected EC Members to suggest the real work horses and the leaders, keeping in mind the focus on the Nari Shakti (at least 30%), young brigade and members from North East, J&K and other priority areas.

You are welcome to suggest the names with the details including Phone & Email ID for the EC to decide at the earliest.

Any new committee or Task Forces to be introduced. The new ones thought of are - Faculty Development, Educational Institutional Mental Health Committee, Fetal & Infant Psychiatry Committee, Psycho-Dermatology, Financial Awareness Committee, LGBTQ to name a few. You are welcome to suggest for the EC to look into.

To work on the academic programmes including the proposed and the newer courses.

To develop the Calendar of activities.

Put in place a method to ARCHIVE all the events of IPS at the IPS Headquarters - to include ANCIPS, CMEs & other programmes in the IPS Banner, both current and the past. I request all the past secretaries, and organizing secretaries of all the programmes to help us out.

To roll out UG Textbook of Psychiatry, IPS PG Textbook of Psychiatry & the Comprehensive Textbook of Psychiatry. Request the Editors to update time-to-time.

I request all the members to contact me on this dedicated Email: [email protected]

Wishing you all a productive New Year!
Long Live IPS,
